Superheroes for us means fast-moving action scenes, futuristic gadgets, unique costumes, and hi-tech cars.
There's a superhero in Karnataka but this superhero is different.
Who told you that superheroes descend only from the space. In fact, some heroes are born on this very planet and they sacrifice their life for mother earth.
In the Adyanadka village of Karnataka, there is one such superhero.
Mahalinga Naik, a real hero.
He is 72 years old by profession, he is a farmer.
His two acres land is filled with betel nut, Coconut black pepper, and many other rich trees and plants but this land which yields such rich crops was not a gift of mother nature to Mr. Naik.
This land which once was unproductive has been turned fertile by Mr. Naik with his efforts.
Yes, alone and without anyone's help.
This was a fertile land that no one wanted to purchase the land was vegetated with grass than with his house owner's help this land was sanctioned to Mr. Naik by the government.
After acquiring this land 1978 the biggest challenge for him was to level the uplands. He started a nearly impossible task of levelling this land.
He had to level up the land and make an embankment for support. Every day after work he would take a boulder and place it on the hilltop.
When 30 rocks were collected he created a barrier then he made six such barriers. Today, such a barrier would cost around Rs. 5 lakh. but he did it all by himself.
This was a minor challenge for him there were many challenges waiting for him on this hill.
One of them was streaming water uphill.
Naik's determination steered him to dig the mountain it wasn't a reliable move but he was resolute that he'd find water beneath.
He didn't know where he would find the stream of water he just trusted the Almighty that's why he kept digging untiringly and was persistent at obtaining a stream. Sometimes he would feel disheartened but he took this up as a challenge.
Mother nature tends to taste you but if you are proved worthy, she also rewards you.
Nearly for eight years after digging four tunnels day and night the fifth tunnel showed the signs of water after being dug for 75 meters.
He constructed a tank at the foothills to store water to draw the water to this tank he used the steam of a betel nut tree. Now, this system has been replaced by a pipeline.
The entire farm has been installed with sprinklers and bore wells by Mr. Nail himself.
Even at the age of 70, this superhero works regularly along with farming he also does beekeeping.
Mr. Naik is happy that everything he has done so far was all by himself.
Today, when he recalled his past he feels proud of himself he might not consider himself a superhero but turning an infertile land into farmland by his own means can be done only by a passionate person by his will power.
Mahalinga Naik worked for about 23,000 hours over 8 years to find water in the mountain.
