World's Shortest Cow

This is a small village called Atholi.

Atholi is a Grama Panchayath in Kozhikode district of Kerala state, South India. It is a small town on the banks of the Korapuzha river. State highway to Kuttiyadi passes through Atholi and it is connected to National Highway 17 through Kuniyil Kadavu bridge which is the longest in Kozhikode district.

Weather: 29 °C, Wind E at 5 km/h, 70% Humidity

Hotels: 3-star averaging ₹3,075, 5-star averaging ₹7,142.

No one had heard about this city apart from the locals here until the last few years. But in the last 6 years, this place has made it to the world map.

You know why? Because there's a celebrity here

This is Atholi's world-famous celebrity, Manikyam.

Friend's don't mistake her for a calf. She's a six-year-old full-grown cow. In spite of this, shes' the tiniest cow in the world.

Usually, a cow's height is 4.7 to 5 feet and weight is 313 kilos but Manikyam is just 1.75 feet tall and weighs 40 kilos. That's less than half the average weight. Because she's a cow of Vechur breed and that's the tiniest breed in the world. It's a rare breed that is found in Kerala.

The reason for her height being so less is the moisture in the weather here the heat and the lack of minerals in the soil.

Manikyam is shorter than the average goat. That's so cute. she must be like a toy for her family, right?

BHASMA M
[Manikyam's caretaker]

We treat like our own child. She at times comes and sits on our lap. She loves to play in the open
My son takes her out for a walk every day...[ She Says]

But it isn't easy to take her outside...

Hey! Don't get shocked Celebrities travel's by cars. After long drives, she loves to relax in the calm back waters.

She is a social butterfly too she loves meeting her fans she has a lot of fans as she's in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Tourists come to see Manikyam not many people knew about the village earlier but now the village has become world-famous.

But huge credit goes to the Balkrishnan family as they take good care of her.

As Mr. Balakrishnan knows about various types of breeds he is capable of taking care of Manikyam.

When I bought Manikyam
along with her mother, her height and weight were normal but after 2 years she stopped growing because of its size she can't produce milk that's when I decided that instead of keeping her in a cowshed we will keep her in our house. Everyone in my family takes care of her food and upbringing...[ He Says]

We understood that with the support of family she has become a star.

A small cow that becomes the pride of its village and was admired by people in the village. Such mixed emotions can be found only in India.
